Artist and educator Sheila Zeve Lipkin can reveal the magic of creating
visual art. During the summer of 2005, Sheila was asked to set up a sketching
program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Sketching in the Galleries
began at the museum during the fall of that year, with Sheila leading the
classes each Sunday. Sheila has continued to lead these weekly classes,
as well as teaching classes at the museum utilizing different color mediums
such as watercolor and pastels.
Among Sheila’s greatest passions are creating
her large abstract canvases as well as experiencing great satisfaction
in facilitating and observing others discover the phenomenon of the creative
process through her engaging instruction.
As an artist and an educator, Sheila believes that learning to create
visual art is a skill, just as learning to play the piano or learning
to be a gourmet cook. One starts with basic information, implementing
the information simply at first and then further developing the properties
of each endeavor, adding information and practice as you go along.
Sheila also believes that we each see a painting and/or style of work
differently and with practice we develop our own abilities and methods
of expression.
Besides teaching
and painting, Sheila had a clothing business for 15 years, designing,
manufacturing, and retailing a line of ladies clothing, featuring classic,
contemporary clothing.
Whether creating visual art is a hobby or develops
into a career, it opens up your mind and experiences in a totally new way.
No matter what your goal may be, creating from the right side of your brain
is totally relaxing and can help relieve the stresses of every day life.
